Gladiator | A Conceptual Art Project

Gladiator is an art project that explores the inherent nature of mankind to explore the unknown and the underlying responsibilities that come along with it.

The project consisted of a conceptual film, Gladiator, using found footage and an artwork that was in exhibition along with the film.

The artwork added an extra layer to the narrative of the project, exploring the the dual nature of exploration and conquest.

It was created digitally using various compositing elements. The astronaut started as a 3d model, which was manipulated into the different poses in ZBrush, after which a matt clay render of it was used as a base in Photoshop to digitally paint and composite the rest of the image. The final artwork was mounted at 60cm x 24cm.
